USM Updates

New Deadline for Freshman Scholarships

February 1 is the new deadline for all merit-based scholarships offered through the Office of Admissions. Thus, the latest standardized test scores that students may submit to be considered for scholarship-awarding purposes are the December ACT and January SAT

Students who want to be considered for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, Regional Scholarship (for nonresident students), and Golden Opportunity Scholarship (for MS resident only) should be admitted to Southern Miss by the deadline for February 1. No application is necessary for students to be considered for these scholarships.

Students who want to compete for the Presidential Scholarship, Leadership Scholarship, and the Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholarship (for MS residents only) must complete and submit the 2010 Competitive Freshman Programs Application by the postmarked deadline of February 1.

NEW CONSIDERATION CRITERIA FOR HONORS COLLEGE ADMISSION

New deadline for application to the Honors College: February 1

Admission to the Honors College is competitive. Successful applicants are offered admissions based on a combination of performance on standardized test (ACT/SAT), high school academic record, evidence of creativity and leadership, and relative strength of the applicant pool. Generally, the minimum criteria for consideration are 27 ACT (combined SAT score of 1210) and a 3.5 core high school gpa (as calculated by the Office of Admissions).
