LSU Architecture & Interior Design Workshop

A Summer Career Discovery Workshop for High School Students Interested in Architecture & Interior Design

The school of Architecture and Department of Interior Design at LSU in Baton Rouge will be offering a one-week career exploration workshop, June 7-13, 2009. The fee association with the workshop is $500 all expenses in conjunction to the workshop is included in fee. Partial & full scholarships may be awarded if funds are available and are based upon financial need. To be considered for one of these scholarships, please complete the financial information section on the application.

In the workshop you will meet professional designers, learn how they work, and learn how they prepared for their careers. As part of the workshop you will explore design ideas in studios, go on field trips, attend lectures, and participate in critiques and seminars. Through your experiences, you will learn what a design professional does, how they become licensed, and the opportunities available in the fields of architecture and interior design.

To apply for the Design Career Discovery Workshop, interested students must fill out an application and return it along with the required 500 word essay and 2 letters of recommendations. Applications and fees are due on or before May 4, 2009. Please make checks or money order payable to Louisiana State University and on the memo line please write Career Discovery Workshop.

MSU Spring Open House/Super Bulldog Weekend

In conjunction w/ Super Bulldog Weekend, the office of admissions and scholarships will host Spring Open House, the universities larges recruiting event of the year in the university's premier tailgating area, The Junction. Spring Open House will be on Friday, April 17 from 2:00 -4:00 and will include residence hall and campus tours as well as a university-wide academic and organization fair. Students and their parents will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives from the Office of Admissions and Scholarships one on one.

Along with the exciting SEC baseball games & the Maroon & White Spring football scrimmage at 5:30 (admission is free)of Super Bulldog Weekend, Spring Open House will also be held in conjunction with the annual Cotton District Arts Festival and Old Main Music Festival that will both take place on Saturday, April 18th.

Teen Police Academy

The Columbus Police Dept. is looking for a few good teenagers who would like to explore the field of Law Enforcement. Students will get a chance to experience Law Enforcement in a hands on environment. The one-week program will be from 9 - 5, Monday - Friday. The student and their parents have to agree that the student will no miss any class. If the student has something else planned during the same time, they are encouraged to apply another year.

ELIGIBILITY
The program is different from the CPD's Explorer Program in that we are looking for the cream of the crop, young people from high schools in Columbus & Lowndes County. They must have a minimum total average of a B- and be between 16-18 years old. Since we will only have a max of 20 students, we expect competition to be strong. The selection is as follows:
* The student must be a resident of Columbus or Lowndes County.
* The student must possess a total academic average of at least a B- and it has to be verified via a letter from Principal of their school.
*The student must be referred to the program via a letter from the counselor of their school
*The student cannot have any negative disciplinary actions in their school within the prior school year.
*The student must be at least 16 years old and not older than 18 years on the first day of the Teen Police Academy
*The student must be prepared to attend every class and not miss any days. Both the student and their parents must sign a written agreement to that effect.
