David G. Hall, MD Memorial Scholarships

The MAFP foundation will donate up to $3,500 of scholarship monies to Mississippi seniors this school year who have an aptitude in the sciences and an interest in pursuing a career in the field of medicine. One overall scholarship of $1,250 will be awarded to an outstanding senior, as well as smaller scholarships to other deserving seniors.

NOTE: The requirements for this scholarship have changed this year. Please be sure to access the newly revised application form at http://www.msafp.org/custom.asp?id=86.

  • Each student that you feel meets the above criteria should submit the application, along with their 500-word essay titled, “The Family Physician: Providing Your Medical Home” to their school counselor.
  • The essay should “Describe the impact of a Family Physician in your life or the life of your family and/or the role of the Family Physician in your community. In what ways do Family Physicians strengthen the various aspects of the community?”
  • The school counselor should select a committee to judge the entries you receive and select one winning essay entry to represent your school in the statewide scholarship competition. The essay should be grammatically correct and accurate in terms of spelling and word usage.
  • The essays will be disqualified if the essay is not written about a family physician. (Definition of a family physician is on the application form.)
  • Each school will select an internal essay deadline and include this date on the Contest Rules page prior to duplicating.
  • Please mail the school’s winning essay to the MAFP Foundation, 133 Executive Drive, Suite E, Madison, MS 39110.


All applications must be postmarked on or before March 31, 2010 to be considered for the scholarship.
