Several Black Colleges are looking for future black male teachers and will send them to universities/collegesfor 4 years FREE. The 'Call Me MISTER' program is an effort to address the critical shortage of African American male teachers particularly among South Carolina 's lowest performing public schools.

Program participants are selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities. The program is a collaboration between Clemson University and four historically black colleges in South Carolina:

Benedict College , Claflin University , Morris College and South Carolina State University. The project provides:

Community Friends of ICS Scholarship

The Community Friends of ICS announces the sponsorship of 26 educational scholarships in the amount of $750 to be given to two seniors in each of the thirteen counties served by ICS. The scholarship is for the first year of college or vocational training and will be awarded in two allotments of $375.

Any high school senior, who is a former Head Start student or has a sister or brother currently enrolled in Head Start, may apply. Applicants may complete an application form which requires a typed composition on, “How This Scholarship will Benefit Me.” Applicants must also obtain a written recommendation from their principal, counselor, or teacher. Applicants must be eligible to enroll in an academic, vocational or technical institution, and submit proof of enrollment before receiving the award.

Applications forms may be obtained from the high school or local Head Start center and may be returned to the Community Friends of ICS at PO Box 5711, Holly Springs, MS 38634 no later than March 12, 2010. Those chosen will be notified by mail.

Vaughan Memorial Scholarship

DAVID GLENN VAUGHAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The David Glenn Vaughan Memorial Scholarship is a one time, $500.00 scholarship, offered to a graduating New Hope High School Senior who has chosen a career in the field of business or education. The student must participate in athletics.
The student must have maintained a 3.0 (B) or better average through high school and plan to enroll in an accredited institution for higher learning.
Student must have attended New Hope High School for both Junior & Senior years. The student should have a clear disciplinary record, including no suspensions, and should possess high moral and personal characteristics. The student should exhibit those qualities of leadership respected by both students and teachers.

SABR – Negro Leagues Committee Scholarship Application, 2009-10

The NEGRO LEAGUES COMMITTEE (NLC) of the SOCIETY FOR AMERICAN BASEBALL RESEARCH (SABR) is pleased to announce their 2009-10 essay writing contest for high school seniors. SABR is a global team of nearly 7000 individuals and more than 25 research committees. Originating in 1971, the NLC is SABR’s only committee dedicated exclusively to the history of black baseball. Since 1998, the NLC has hosted a JERRY MALLOY NEGRO LEAGUE CONFERENCE.
Some of our initiatives include;
1)donation of books to local schools and/or libraries,
2) raising funds to purchase headstones for
unmarked graves of former players, and the
3) essay writing contest.
Below are instructions for the 2009-10 essay writing contest.
There will be two $2,500 scholarships awarded from SABR.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Current high school senior.
2. Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application.
3. Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
4. Carrying a minimum 2.5 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.
SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:

2. Your essay must be attached to your application.

KFC Scholars
The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program was created in 2006 and is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. To qualify, a student must be:

graduating from high school this academic school year
Maintaining a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Enrolling in a public, in state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/10)
Pursuing a bachelor's degree
A US Citizen

Scholars may begin their college career by entering into either a 2-or 4-year accredited, public (state-funded) college or university within their state of legal residence, as long as they stay on track to complete a bachelor's degree program.

Students complete their application online at http://www.kfcscholars.org/. The online application will be available from December 1, 2009-February 10, 2010. Students will be asked to provide pertinent information about themselves, & their family life, their activity level during high school, and compose a few short answer responses to various questions. The online application will allow you to save your work as you go. Once the application period closes, a preliminary review of all applications submitted will take place (early March). Based on the preliminary review, students selected a semifinalists will then be asked to provide additional supporting documents.

The scholarship is could be worth up to $20,000 over 4 years for tuition, fees, books, and room & board.

“A Constitutional Speech Contest”

GENERAL INFORMATION
The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program “A Constitutional Speech Contest” is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship awards are presented to the three finalist in the Final Round of the National contest as follows: 1st Place - $18,000; 2nd Place - $16,000; and 3rd place - $14,000. Each Department (State) winner who is certified in or and participates in the first round of the National Contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Each first round winner who advances to and participates in the 2nd round, but does not advance to the Final round will receive an additional $1,500 scholarship to pursue education beyond high school.
In addition to the scholarships awarded by the National Organization, there are several hundred dollar scholarships awarded at the discretion of the intermediate organization, to participants at the Post, District, or County, and Department levels of competition.

ELIGIBILITY
Eligible contestants must be legal residents of US, under the age of 20 & presently enrolled in high school or junior high school.

NAFEPA Scholarship

Purpose
The purpose of the scholarship program is to financially support post-secondary education for qualifying seniors or high school graduates who are attending their first year of college

Eligibility
Candidates for the NAFEPA scholarship will be selected by the NAFEPA affiliate state. Each state may select one candidate to represent their state for the national scholarship program.

Selection Process
Scholarship winners will be selected based on the following areas of equal point value:

High school or college transcript from fall 2009
extracurricular activities/leadership activities within the community or church
Three letters of recommendation, including letters from a principal and faculty member
Financial need
A 300 word (max) essay outlining his/her leadership activities and future goals

Scholarship Payment
The full amount of each scholarship will be made payable to the institution of choice.

NAFEPA offers three different scholarships: (1) Stanley J. McFarland, (2)John A. Pfaff, and (3)Iva McCants. Each of the three scholarship awards is $2,500.

Students attending the conference will also have the opportunity to interview for the distinguished Hearin Leadership Scholarship. The scholarships of $10,000 for four years are based on an interview and demonstrated school and/or community leadership.

WHAT is the Hearin Leadership Conference?
The Hearin Leadership Conference offers high school seniors, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and have a minimum ACT of 18 and a GPA of 2.5, the opportunity to attend leadership workshops, interact with other student leaders, and hear nationally acclaimed speakers.

WHEN is Hearin Leadership Conference?
The 2010 Hearin Leadership Conference is scheduled for January 29 -31. The conference will begin with lunch for the students and their parents at 11:30 on Friday. The conference will conclude at 11:00 on Sunday.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communications and Journalism is seeking five high school juniors and seniors with the potential to succeed in careers as photojournalists to participate in the second year of Southern Mississippi Photojournalism Project.

The students selected for the program will have the opportunity to work on important stories with several of the country’s top photojournalists. There is no cost to students who are selected to participate. They will provide equipment. Students will need only to provide their own transportation to the Hattiesburg campus for two workshops on January 8-10 and March 26-28, 2010.

Applications for the 2010 session of Mississippi Governor's School, a residential honors program for high ability 10th & 11th grade students, held at MUW are now available. Student's who are selected for this 3 week residential program receive a full scholarship for tuition, room and board. The dates for the 2010 session are June 6-25, and the theme is Leading in a Time of Change.

There are numerous benefits for students who attend Governor's School. Each scholars will receive three hours of college credit to be used at any university and a $500 scholarship to attend the W. They may qualify for additional scholarships as well. While challenging academics are certainly a cornerstone of the program, residential, recreation, and social aspects are equally important as is the focus of developing leadership potential.

David G. Hall, MD Memorial Scholarships

The MAFP foundation will donate up to $3,500 of scholarship monies to Mississippi seniors this school year who have an aptitude in the sciences and an interest in pursuing a career in the field of medicine. One overall scholarship of $1,250 will be awarded to an outstanding senior, as well as smaller scholarships to other deserving seniors.

NOTE: The requirements for this scholarship have changed this year. Please be sure to access the newly revised application form at http://www.msafp.org/custom.asp?id=86.

Each student that you feel meets the above criteria should submit the application, along with their 500-word essay titled, “The Family Physician: Providing Your Medical Home” to their school counselor.
The essay should “Describe the impact of a Family Physician in your life or the life of your family and/or the role of the Family Physician in your community. In what ways do Family Physicians strengthen the various aspects of the community?”
The school counselor should select a committee to judge the entries you receive and select one winning essay entry to represent your school in the statewide scholarship competition. The essay should be grammatically correct and accurate in terms of spelling and word usage.
The essays will be disqualified if the essay is not written about a family physician. (Definition of a family physician is on the application form.)
Each school will select an internal essay deadline and include this date on the Contest Rules page prior to duplicating.

All applications must be postmarked on or before March 31, 2010 to be considered for the scholarship.

The John C. Stennis Scholarships in Political Science are offered by Mississippi State University's Department of Political Science and Public Administration. They are provided to highly qualified entering freshmen and community college graduates.

MSU proudly offers graduating high school seniors John C. Stennis Scholarships in Political Science. The Stennis Scholarships, established to honor this illustrious alumnus of the University, are awarded to promising young Mississippians with a strong commitment to public service.

The scholarship continues for four years or until graduation (whichever comes first). However, students must continue to major in political science and maintain a cumulative "B" average with a normal academic load of at least fifteen hours per semester. The Scholarship includes an Educational Enhancement Fund stipend of $1,600 per student, usually for internships in Washington, D.C.

Miriam Scarborough Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a female high school graduate to attend a college or university of their choice located in the State of Mississippi. Each award granted is for one scholarship for one year – not to exceed $1,000. Monies are paid directly to the designated school in two installments correlating with the school’s academic calendar. This scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, leadership and need.

Application Requirements
· Female Mississippi resident and high school graduate
· Accepted by a college or university in Mississippi
· ACT score of 24 or higher (1100 on SAT)
· Should have a 2.5 gpa or higher on a 4.0 grading system for 7 semesters
· Leadership resume for grades 10 -12 (include school, community, and church activities)
· A statement of Financial need completed by parent/guardian
· An itemized expense sheet for academic year

Qualified applicants will be requested to attend an interview with a local Miriam Scarborough Scholarship Committee.

Completed applications are due to the counselor or Mississippi State PEO chapter member no later than February 1.

ACT Poster Contest

ACT wants to encourage students to tap into their creativity and possibly qualify for a scholarship--through the national ACT Poster Concept Contest.

Students can enter the contest by designing a poster that encourages other students to attend college and to take the ACT® as their college entrance exam. We will use the winning design concept to produce the 2010-2011 ACT test date information poster we distribute to high schools nationwide.

The Contest is open to high school students who are residents of any one of the 50 United States and who are eligible and applying for 2010 or 2011 admission to a two-year or four-year college in the United States.

The first place winner will receive a $5,000 nonrenewable scholarship to his or her college of choice. Second and third place winners will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships respectively.

New Deadline for Freshman Scholarships

February 1 is the new deadline for all merit-based scholarships offered through the Office of Admissions. Thus, the latest standardized test scores that students may submit to be considered for scholarship-awarding purposes are the December ACT and January SAT

Students who want to be considered for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, Regional Scholarship (for nonresident students), and Golden Opportunity Scholarship (for MS resident only) should be admitted to Southern Miss by the deadline for February 1. No application is necessary for students to be considered for these scholarships.

Students who want to compete for the Presidential Scholarship, Leadership Scholarship, and the Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholarship (for MS residents only) must complete and submit the 2010 Competitive Freshman Programs Application by the postmarked deadline of February 1.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
1. Seniors in high schools throughout the United States who meet the eligibility requirements may apply each year for one of 250 four-year, achievement-based scholarships. Students will find the application link on this web-page between August 1 and October 31. The deadline is October 31st and the student must be a senior at the time of application.
2. Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected as Semifinalists in mid-November and notified by mail and email. Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications will be due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 Finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February.
3. In April, the 250 Finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The Finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts. 50 students are then designated as National Scholars and receive awards of $20,000 for college; 200 students are designated as Regional Scholars and receive awards of $10,000 for college.

USM Luckyday Citizenship Scholars Program

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholars Program is now accepting applications for 2010. The program looks for exemplary student candidates who demonstrate self-motivation, high school involvement, servant leadership, commitment to community service, and need financial assistance for college.

The Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholars Program at USM has been name the Best Practice in Student Services for 2006 by the Institutions of Higher Learning of Mississippi and has been recognized nationally by the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals Association with the Silver Award in 2007 for being the second best practice in its area nationally. The Luckyday Foundations Citizenship Scholars Program at Southern Miss will be providing $16,000 over four-year period. Additionally, a one-time $4,000 study abroad scholarship offered to at least 20 students each year provides a life changing opportunity to experience cultures different from their own.

The Luckyday Citizenship Program requires scholars to enroll in a Luckyday Citizenship Seminar and University 101 course during the fall of their freshman year. This introduces the students to the university services and familiarizes them with the Southern Miss campus. The Luckyday Citizenship Program also requires scholars to live in specified university housing with fellow Luckyday peers. We expect students to perform service learning activities, become campus leaders, and benefit the Southern Miss community. The Luckyday Citizenship Program strives to help students develop into serving citizens and Southern Miss graduates.

Essay Topic:
Write an original and creative essay of less than 1,000 words that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by JFK in Profiles of Courage. Use at least five varied sources such as newspaper, articles, books, and/or personal interviews to:

Describe& analyze the decisions, actions, and risks of an elected public official in the US since 1956 who has couragesly addressed a political issue at the local, state, national, or international level.

Guidelines:

Subject must be an elected official in the US since 1956. Students are encourage to choose an original subject and tell a story that has not yet been told.
Essays must demonstrate an understanding of President Kennedy's definition of political courage. See website.
Essays must include a bibliography of at least five varied, reliable resources, including a non-internet source.
John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward M. Kennedy and past Profile in Courage Award reciepents are not eligible topics for essays.

Awards:

First-place winner is awarded $5,000. 2nd place recieves $1,000 & up to five finalists recieve $500.
The nomination teacher of the 1st place winner will recieve the JFK Public Service grant for $500 to encourage student leadership & civic engagement.

MS Section of the American Nuclear Society Scholarship

The Undergraduate Scholarship Program of the Mississippi Section of the American Nuclear Society is an academic competition for scholarships that originally began in 2006 as the Incoming College Freshman Scholarship Program. College undergraduates, including incoming freshmen, from the state of Mississippi may enter the Scholarship Program by submitting the scholarship application.

A Summer Career Discovery Workshop for High School Students Interested in Architecture & Interior Design

The school of Architecture and Department of Interior Design at LSU in Baton Rouge will be offering a one-week career exploration workshop, June 7-13, 2009. The fee association with the workshop is $500 all expenses in conjunction to the workshop is included in fee. Partial & full scholarships may be awarded if funds are available and are based upon financial need. To be considered for one of these scholarships, please complete the financial information section on the application.

In the workshop you will meet professional designers, learn how they work, and learn how they prepared for their careers. As part of the workshop you will explore design ideas in studios, go on field trips, attend lectures, and participate in critiques and seminars. Through your experiences, you will learn what a design professional does, how they become licensed, and the opportunities available in the fields of architecture and interior design.

MSU Spring Open House/Super Bulldog Weekend

Teen Police Academy

The Columbus Police Dept. is looking for a few good teenagers who would like to explore the field of Law Enforcement. Students will get a chance to experience Law Enforcement in a hands on environment. The one-week program will be from 9 - 5, Monday - Friday. The student and their parents have to agree that the student will no miss any class. If the student has something else planned during the same time, they are encouraged to apply another year.

ELIGIBILITY
The program is different from the CPD's Explorer Program in that we are looking for the cream of the crop, young people from high schools in Columbus & Lowndes County. They must have a minimum total average of a B- and be between 16-18 years old. Since we will only have a max of 20 students, we expect competition to be strong. The selection is as follows:
* The student must be a resident of Columbus or Lowndes County.
* The student must possess a total academic average of at least a B- and it has to be verified via a letter from Principal of their school.
*The student must be referred to the program via a letter from the counselor of their school
*The student cannot have any negative disciplinary actions in their school within the prior school year.
*The student must be at least 16 years old and not older than 18 years on the first day of the Teen Police Academy
*The student must be prepared to attend every class and not miss any days. Both the student and their parents must sign a written agreement to that effect.

MML Scholarship

The MML is proud to announce the 17th Annual MML Scholarship Program.

A $2,000 scholarship is open to any high school senior in Mississippi who plans to attend an accredited community or junior college, college or university in Mississippi. A second $2,000 scholarship is restricted to the children or grandchildren of Mississippi municipal officials and employees.

Applicants for both scholarships must write an essay on the topic “Why I Should Consider a Career in Municipal Government.” The three members if the MML Scholarship & Awards Committee will judge the entries. These members represent almost every form of municipal leadership. For more information on the judging criteria, please refer to the application.

Winners and their parents will be recognized on July 15, 2009 during the MML Annual Conference in Biloxi and their essays will be published in Mississippi Municipalities magazine.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program

Jackson, MS - The Mississippi Department of Education is accepting applications for the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program. The federally funded program is named in honor of Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia. The scholarship program is open to graduating high school seniors and eligible general education development recipients. Furthermore, the scholarship program will award 65 to 70 scholarships worth $1,500 each. The scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of undergraduate study at any postsecondary institution of higher education in the United States excluding military academies.

The selection criteria is designed to ensure that all eligible students receive consideration without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, age, economic background, educational expenses, or financial need. Scholarships are awarded based upon academic merit and the promise of continued excellence in postsecondary education. A nine-member scholarship selection committee, composed of school board members, administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents, will select Mississippi’s “Byrd Scholars” from among the state’s four congressional districts.

Applications for the Robert C. Sara Lawrence Memorial Schoalrship to MUW

Ole Miss Summer College for High School Students

Ole Miss is looking for the brightest and the best of the Classes of 2010 & 2011 to participate in the 29th annual Summer College for High School Students. The Summer College is comprised of twelve programs and institutes in a variety fo disciplines and varying degrees of difficulty.

Each summer outstanding high school students from across the US (and some foreign countries) converge on the University of Mississippi’s Oxford Campus to participate in the Summer College experience. Students live in a university resident hall during a four-week summer session and enroll in two college courses for which they can earn up to 7 hours of college credit. Additionally, they participate in campus activities, career exploration, networking, and social activities with other Summer College Students: all while being under the careful supervision of a professional staff and trained college student counselors.

Students must meet the admissions requirements set by the Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning. Any student with a 3.2 GPA on 15 academic courses on the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) –OR- minimum of 25 ACT and 3.5 on 10 academic courses on the CPC is eligible.

The Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Board of Trustees established the David G. Hall, M.D. Memorial Scholarship to award scholarships to seniors in schools across Mississippi who have an aptitude in the sciences and interest in pursuing a career in the field of medicine.

The foundation will donate up to $3,500 of scholarship monies to Mississippi seniors this school year.

The Exchange Club of Columbus Youth of the Year and A.C.E. Award

For many years the Exchange Club of Columbus has recognized outstanding graduating seniors from each high school within Lowndes County during a lunchtime program at the Columbus Country Club. We are planning on recognizing an Exchange Club Youth of the Year and an A.C.E. award winner from your high school.

During the program scheduled for April 2nd, 2009, we will recognize each award winner, from each school, and have a special presentation honoring their accomplishments. We encourage each award winner to invite family, school counselors, influential teachers and administration for this special program.

We have two categories and two recognition programs for each school. The Youth of the Year recognition is a traditional award that recognizes outstanding school involvement and performance. Our A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) award winner is a non-traditional designee, who has inspired and overcome major obstacles in their quest for a high school diploma. The Exchange Club Youth Committee will review all entries and choose one Youth of the Year winner from all submissions and one A.C.E. award winner from all submissions and recognize these outstanding students as our Youth of the Year and A.C.E. winner from Lowndes County. The selected graduating seniors chosen as the overall Lowndes County recipients will each receive a scholarship of $500.00 from the Columbus Exchange Club towards furthering their education.

In addition, our Lowndes County winners will then be submitted to the Mississippi District Exchange Club program allowing them to further compete for additional scholarship awards. If they are selected as a district winner, they are then entered into the national competition and they will be eligible for larger scholarship amounts. As the nation's leading educational loan guarantor, USA Funds works to promote access to higher education for all deserving students.

For the 2009-2010 academic year USA Funds will award $1,500 scholarships to students with economic need. Full-time and half-time undergraduates are eligible for the awards. Up to 50 percent of the scholarships will be targeted to students who, in addition to demonstration financial need, are members of an ethnic minority group or a physically disabled.

Institute of Community Services, Inc. Scholarship

The Institute of Community Services, Inc. announces the sponsorship of thirteen $750.00 educational scholarships given to one eligible senior in each of the 13 counties served by ICS.(Clay, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Lowndes, Marshall, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate and Tunica)

Any high school senior, who is a former Head Start student or has a sibling currently enrolled in Head Start may apply. Applicants must complete an application form which requires a typed composition on “How This Scholarship Will Benefit Me.” Applicants must obtain a written recommendation from their principal, guidance counselor, or teacher and must be a resident of one of the above counties. Applicants must be eligible to enroll in an academic, vocational, or technical institution and must submit proof of enrollement before receiving the award.

Application forms may be obtained from the high school or local Head Start Center and must be returned to ICS, Inc. no later than March 13, 2009. Those chosen to receive the awards will be notified by mail.

The scholarship is for the first year of college and will be awarded in tow allotments of $375.00.

EMCC Tuition Guarantee Program

EMCC’s Two-Year Tuition Guarantee Program for Lowndes County Students

Eligible students are residents of Lowndes County graduating from a Lowndes County public or private high school, beginning in Spring 2009. You must apply for the program in the same year you graduate, take the ACT, and apply for all state and federal aid for which you may qualify. The tuition guarantee program will make up the shortfall.
If you want to take advantage of the tuition guarantee program, you can attend classes at any EMCC location: Golden Triangle Campus, the West Point-Clay County Center, Scooba Campus, Columbus Air Force Base, Macon or Naval Air Station Meridian.
You must be a full-time student at EMCC, that is, complete at least 12 hours of coursework per semester.
You must maintain a 2.0 grade point average at EMCC.
You can begin classes in fall or winter terms; summer terms are not included in the plan.
Be careful: If you begin the program, and then withdraw, you can’t reapply.

Bumpers to award more scholarships

CANTON - On Jan. 16, Bumpers Drive-
In locations across Mississippi will kick off the seventh-annual Bumpers Discover Mississippi Scholarship Contest, awarding college scholarships to students across the state.

"In the past six years, Bumpers has awarded more than $285,000 in college scholarships to Mississippi high school students," said Monica Hargill, vice president of Bumpers. And then, of course, there's also the food. In the past six years, Bumpers has awarded more than 76,000free meals to students who have participated in the program."

On April 18, Bumpers will select through random drawing and then awards$33,000 in college scholarships to Mississippi students, including one$10,000, one $5,000, one $2,500 and one $1,000 scholarship, as well as six additional $2,000 regional scholarships to students who live in the north, Delta, east, central, southwest and southeast areas of the state.

As a bonus, every student who completes the contest requirements will receive free meals for a year, 52 Bumpers Drive-In meals, one per week,for a year.

Students need to pick up a contest passport on or after Jan. 16 at any of the 32 Bumpers locations in Mississippi. Participating students will then travel across the state "discovering Mississippi" and learning facts about the communities Bumpers serve.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholars Program is not accepting applications for 2009. The program looks for exemplary student candidates who demonstrate self-motivation, high school involvement, servant leadership, commitment to community service, and need financial assistance for college.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Luckyday Foundation Citizenship Scholars Program will be providing, $15,500 over a four year period. Additionally, a one-time $4,000 study abroad scholarship offered at least 20 students each year provides a life changing opportunity to experience cultures different from their own.

The Luckyday program requires scholars to enroll in a Luckyday Citizenship Seminar and University 101 course during the fall semester of their freshman year. This introduces the students to university services and familiarizes them with the Southern Miss campus. The Luckyday Citizenship Program also requires scholars to perform service learning activities, become campus leaders & benefit the Southern Miss community. The Luckyday Citizenship Program strives to help students develop into serving citizens & Southern Miss graduates.

Toyota Motor Sales is pleased to present the 12th annual Toyota Community Scholars program for high school seniors . The program will award 100 renewable scholarships, valuated at $10,000 or $20,000 payable over four years, to seniors who enroll at a 4 year college/university in the United States starting in the fall of 2009. The scholarship winners will be announced in April 2009.

Toyota believes helping people who improve the quality of life in their community is an essential component of corporate responsibility. The Toyota Community Scholars program recognizes academic excellence & rewards young people who actively participate in community service.
